Mavic 2 Filter Guide: Behind The Build

Today we will be looking at the Neutral Density (ND) filters for the DJI Mavic 2 to give you a more in depth look into our lineup. The PolarPro Team has set up three different categories of the filters to clarify what each will help with the next time you are flying with your Mavic 2. These categories are: video, general photography, and long exposure photography. There are also two levels of filters, one being the Standard Series which is made up of a rugged nylon frame and offer HD optical clarity to capture beautiful imagery. The other is the Cinema Series which is housed in a lightweight aluminum frame and offers the same HD optical coatings for perfect target transmission with a hyper-neutral color profile. In addition to the optical coatings, Cinema Series filters feature scratch resistant coatings that increase surface hardness for an extremely durable exterior that holds up over long-term use, and a hydrophobic coating that helps to repel water, oils and general moisture for crystal clear optics and easy cleaning of the inside and outside of the filters.

PolarPro Videography Neutral Density Filters For The DJI MAvic 2

Within the video category, PolarPro offers four different collections to fit your workflow. To start, the Shutter Collection will be the straight Neutral Density filters and the Vivid Collection which will be the ND/PL that add the polarizing element (PL). Each of these collections come with the ND4 (2-stops), ND8 (3-stops), and ND16 (4-stops) to cover most lighting conditions you will encounter when shooting with your DJI Mavic 2. PolarPro also offers the 6-pack ND filter set which includes both Shutter and Vivid collection so that you as the creative can choose which color and look you want for your video.

Continuing with the Limited Collection which offers filters of: ND32, ND64, ND32/PL, and ND64/PL which will allow you to shoot in really bright conditions at an aperture of f/2.8 or f/4 to maintain optimal sharpness to your video project.

The last collection will be the Gradient 3-Pack which includes the ND8-GR, ND16-4, and ND32-8. The split level of the gradient filters are great when filming scenes like a bright sky and darker ground to help balance the exposure to increase the scene dynamic range.

General Photography

For general photography with the DJI Mavic 2, PolarPro caries two options: the circular polarizer (CP) and the UV filter.

The CP filter is a go-to filter to reduce glare in your images. Reducing the glare will increase the color saturation and contrast to give your images a nice "poppy" look.

The UV filter is a use to cut through light haze when shooting. The UV filter is also used by many, including ourselves, as a layer of protection for the camera lens.

Long Exposure Photography

Within the long exposure category for the DJI Mavic 2, PolarPro offers the Exposure Collection and the stand alone ND10k filter. Each of these filters will have a higher stop value to allow for longer shutter speeds to capture beautiful, buttery long exposure scenes.

The Exposure Collection is made up of the ND128, ND256, and ND1000 filters with 7-stops, 8-stops, and 10-stops of light reduction across the three filters. This collection will allow you to shoot scenes under any light scenario to determine the exact shutter speed you are looking for.

The ND10k boasts 13-stops of light reduction to allow the shutter to remain open for up to eight seconds mid-day for unique shots that are sure to stun your audience!
